Nestled in the fertile slopes of Mathira, Nyeri County, Ruiruiru Factory carries a story of resilience and renewal. Once a vibrant hub for local coffee farmers, the factory had nearly fallen silent its pulpers rusting and drying beds collapsing under years of neglect. Many thought its glory days were gone.

But a group of determined young farmers and community members refused to let it die. Driven by passion and pride for their heritage, they came together to restore Ruiruiru Factory  rebuilding the drying tables, cleaning the channels and reviving the cooperative spirit that had long defined the area.

Today, Ruiruiru is known not just for its comeback, but for its forward-thinking approach. The new generation has embraced anaerobic fermentation, a method that uses minimal water and allows them to craft vibrant, fruit-forward coffees while preserving the environment.

Farmers once again bring their red ripe cherries down the dusty road to the processing station, where each lot is carefully hand sorted, anaerobic fermented and sun dried on raised African beds.
